About this piece
The ring format suits an archipelago. The islands hang across the open circle with the channels running between them, Oahu and Pearl Harbor near the middle, Maui and its neighbors clustered beyond, and the Big Island's volcanoes anchoring the far side, with Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea etched in, while the hands sweep around it. It reads as sculpture first and clock second, which is the correct order for a wall piece.
