About this piece
The ring format suits a chain of inland seas. Superior stretches across the upper arc, Michigan drops straight down beside the mitten, Huron and Georgian Bay spread to the east, and Erie and Ontario step off toward the St. Lawrence, all of it held inside the open circle while the hands sweep around it. It reads as sculpture first and clock second, which is the correct order for a wall piece.
