How the Water Becomes Wood

The UV series reaches the same waters by a different route, and skips the glass so your hands can follow the depths too.

  1. SurveyThe build starts from the same real sounding data as the carved charts.
  2. CutDepth bands are laser-cut from Baltic birch, up to five layers.
  3. StainEach water layer is stained by hand, darker with depth.
  4. PrintHigh-resolution UV printing lays the fine detail and points of interest onto the top layer.
  5. Open finishNo acrylic cover: run your fingers across the contours and feel the water fall away.

The Gulf coast from Sarasota to Venice in the UV series: the barrier keys, the bays behind them, and the passes between, laser-cut in hand-stained Baltic birch with the towns and waterways UV-printed across the top layer.

This stretch of coast is a ladder of famous keys: Longboat, Lido, Siesta with its quartz-white sand that stays cool underfoot and keeps landing atop best-beach rankings, then Casey Key and on down to Venice, where the beaches give up fossilized shark teeth by the handful. Behind the keys, Sarasota Bay and the Intracoastal thread the whole run, and the passes, Big Pass, Midnight Pass, Venice Inlet, punch through to the Gulf. The staining splits the waters plainly: pale flats inside the bays, deepening Gulf blues beyond the beach line.

The UV series carries no acrylic, so the chain of keys runs bare under your fingertip end to end, and the printing keeps every pass and bayfront neighborhood legible.

Whether your ritual is a Siesta sunset or a shark-tooth sifter at Caspersen, your stretch of sand anchors this map.

The print spans downtown Sarasota and the Ringling bayfront, St. Armands and Lido, Siesta Key, Osprey and Casey Key, Nokomis, and Venice with its jetties at the inlet.
