Chesapeake Bay in the UV series: the largest estuary in the United States rendered in laser-cut, hand-stained Baltic birch, its two hundred miles of tidal water and famously intricate shoreline UV-printed in detail on the top layer.
The Chesapeake gathers rivers from six states, and its edges wander through so many creeks, necks, and coves that the bay claims more shoreline than the entire West Coast. It averages a surprising 21 feet deep, a shallow, productive basin that raises the blue crabs and oysters the region cooks its identity around. On the map, the staining follows the drowned river valley of the ancient Susquehanna, a darker channel winding down the middle with pale stained shallows fanning out to either side.
The UV series leaves the wood uncovered, so every ragged tidewater edge is a cut line you can trace by touch, and the printing keeps hundreds of river and town names legible across the sprawl.
