Lake George, New York 3D Wood Map | Laser-Cut Birch Depth Chart
How the Water Becomes Wood
A chart is a stack of flat sheets until the water's real soundings tell it what shape to take.
- SurveyReal bathymetric sounding data sets every contour line before a single cut is made.
- CutEach depth band is laser-cut from its own sheet of Baltic birch, up to nine layers deep.
- StainWater layers are stained by hand, reading darker the deeper the water runs.
- StackThe sheets are registered and stacked in sequence, and the bed's true shape rises out of the wood.
- EtchDepths and place names are burned into the grain itself, never printed on it.
- FrameA solid Baltic birch frame and acrylic glass finish the piece, ready to hang.
Lake George in layered Baltic birch, 13.5 by 43 inches, the longest format in the lineup for one of the longest-loved lakes in the country: thirty-two miles of Adirondack water, island by island, one depth contour per layer.
They call it the Queen of American Lakes, and the case is strong: spring-fed clarity, mountains rising straight from both shores, and more than 170 islands scattered down its length, dozens of them public campsites you can claim by boat. Thomas Jefferson, passing through in 1791, wrote that it was the most beautiful water he had ever seen. The lake narrows and bends through The Narrows' island maze, then runs north to Ticonderoga, where its outlet drops toward Champlain past the old fort. On the chart, the island field crowds the middle layers while the deep trench below Black Mountain steps far down into the birch.
Contours are laser-cut sheet by sheet, stacked by hand, engraved, and finished behind acrylic glass in a solid Baltic birch frame in Dark or Light.
Camping an island here is an inheritance passed between generations. Find your island; it is on the chart.
The engraving runs from Lake George village and Million Dollar Beach through Bolton Landing and The Narrows to Hague and Ticonderoga. Companions: Lake Champlain and Lake Placid.
