New Smyrna Beach, Florida 3D Wood Map | Laser-Cut Birch Nautical Chart
How the Water Becomes Wood
The UV series reaches the same waters by a different route, and skips the glass so your hands can follow the depths too.
- SurveyThe build starts from the same real sounding data as the carved charts.
- CutDepth bands are laser-cut from Baltic birch, up to five layers.
- StainEach water layer is stained by hand, darker with depth.
- PrintHigh-resolution UV printing lays the fine detail and points of interest onto the top layer.
- Open finishNo acrylic cover: run your fingers across the contours and feel the water fall away.
New Smyrna Beach and its inlet in the UV series: the barrier beach, Ponce de Leon Inlet, and the lagoon waters behind, laser-cut in hand-stained Baltic birch with the coastline detail UV-printed on the top layer.
This is one of the great meeting points on Florida's east coast: the Halifax and Indian River waters converge at Ponce Inlet beneath the tallest lighthouse in Florida, 175 feet of brick that has marked the passage since 1887. South of town, Mosquito Lagoon opens into the redfish flats and untouched barrier shoreline of Canaveral National Seashore, some of the wildest coast left in the state. The surf breaks off the inlet have raised generations of Florida surfers. On the map, the staining draws the whole system: pale lagoon golds inside the barrier, the inlet's channel cut through, Atlantic blues deepening offshore.
No acrylic covers the UV series, so the barrier island and the lagoon edges stay touchable, and the printing holds the fine detail from the jetties to the backwater creeks.
Flagler Avenue mornings, JB's on the backwater, a board on the roof by seven: whatever your version of NSB is, it is printed here.
The print runs from Ponce Inlet and the lighthouse south through New Smyrna Beach and Bethune Beach into Mosquito Lagoon, with Edgewater along the mainland shore and Daytona's coast just north.
