Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho 3D Wood Map | Laser-Cut Birch Depth Chart
How the Water Becomes Wood
The UV series reaches the same waters by a different route, and skips the glass so your hands can follow the depths too.
- SurveyThe build starts from the same real sounding data as the carved charts.
- CutDepth bands are laser-cut from Baltic birch, up to five layers.
- StainEach water layer is stained by hand, darker with depth.
- PrintHigh-resolution UV printing lays the fine detail and points of interest onto the top layer.
- Open finishNo acrylic cover: run your fingers across the contours and feel the water fall away.
Lake Coeur d'Alene in the UV mountain series: laser-cut Baltic birch layers, hand-stained deeper blue with depth, with the shoreline towns, bays, and the forested mountains around the lake UV-printed across the top layer.
The lake runs some 25 miles through the Idaho Panhandle, folded between national forest ridges that come straight down to the water. Every winter, bald eagles gather over Wolf Lodge Bay to feed on spawning kokanee, one of the most reliable eagle-watching spectacles in the lower 48. And off the resort at the north end floats the golf hole everyone asks about: the movable island green of the 14th, sitting right there in the printed detail. The staining follows the lake's real basin, darkest over the deep water south of the point.
No acrylic covers the UV series, so the shoreline's cut edge and every bay stay touchable, and the printing carries detail down to the small coves the wakeboats claim by nine each morning.
Locals split loyalty between town beaches and the quiet southern arms toward the Chain Lakes. Both ends of the argument are on the map.
The print spans the city of Coeur d'Alene and Tubbs Hill, Wolf Lodge Bay, Arrow Point, Harrison partway down the eastern shore, and the St. Joe River country at the southern end.
