About this piece
Five lakes, one connected system, and the map shows the connections that matter: Michigan and Huron trading water at the Straits, the whole flow gathering through Erie and dropping past Niagara into Ontario on its way to the sea. The staining does the depth-telling here, Superior's cold basin darkest of all, the island shallows around Put-in-Bay barely tinted.
